How To Customize Drinkware (Tutorial)

untitled (4)

A tutorial by Sheryl H, from Diyxe.

One of my absolute favorite things to do with my Cricut is to customize drinkware, I even have the overflowing cupboards to prove it! There are just so many fun ideas, what’s a girl to do!

Let’s Begin!

Supply List

  • Stainless Steel Tumbler
  • Weeding Tool
  • Scraper Tool
  • Transfer Tape
  • Vinyl

Step By Step Process

Step 1: Find Your Design

Head over to and snag their Magical Bundle. CraftBundles offer amazing design bundles at super affordable prices, and covers commercial licensing! This license allows you to use their designs for yourself, all your friends and to sell! For this tutorial, I used the “together is a wonderful place to be” file as it’s the perfect design for summer drinkware!

Step 2: Load your Image into Design Space.

Once you have chosen a design, download the bundle, unzip the file and import the SVG into Cricut design space. I recommend selecting all pieces that are the same color and clicking the weld or attach button in the bottom right corner. This method uses a little more vinyl, but I find it much easier to get the image lined up and straight when doing this.

Step 3: Cut out the design

Make sure your Cricut is set to vinyl, load your vinyl and cut! For this tutorial I used Oracle 651 “Pink” and Styletech Glitter “Rosy”

Step 4:  Weed out the unwanted parts.

After your vinyl is cut, use your weeding tool and remove any parts of the vinyl that are not part of the final design.

Step 5: Transfer Tape

Starting with the pink design, cover it with transfer tape and press down firmly with your scrapper tool.  Flip your design over and carefully peel of the backing of the vinyl, exposing the adhesive side of your vinyl.

Take the piece of transfer tape with the pink design on it and repeat the step over the rosy design. Be careful when lining up the design so that everything is straight when you put it on the tumbler.

Step 6: Placing your Design

Place your design right side up onto your tumbler and use your scrapper or fingers to rub the vinyl on. Carefully peel the transfer tape off, leaving the vinyl on the tumbler.

After removing the transfer tape, press down on the vinyl to make sure all the vinyl is secured.Let vinyl cure 48 hours before getting wet.

So there you have it, customized drinkware in a few easy steps!

Don’t forget to head over to Craft Bundles and check out their awesome designs!

Using The May Craft Bundle to Enhance Your Images

Every month we at Craftbundles launch a new bundle, which is filled with lots of amazing goodies at a greatly discounted rate. For our May bundle, we released The May Craft Bundle with lots of SVG cut files in it.  Perfect for all the crafting, eh?

What if we said that there was more to the bundle itself, and that you could use it for other purposes like to enhance your images? After all this bundle is filled with other crafting files like fonts and graphics.

Here are some images we enhanced, using The May Craft Bundle;

1. This Skyscraper View

Edits for image using font

This was created using the Altoys font in the bundle. The only other things needed were an image, and a white rectangle with an adjusted opacity. This lead to this simple yet eye-catching enhanced image.

2. This Breakfast With A Quote

mellony script

This flat lay photo seemed to be lacking something at first, but after typing out a quote with the Mellony font from the bundle it seemed to fill in the empty space on the image. The specific Mellony font used in this photo is the ‘dry brush’ version, but the bundle also includes a ‘smooth, normal’ version.

3. This Instagram Image With A Quote

THorny font

This square image of a desert-like road with a blue streak is interesting, but is also a perfect background for inspiring quotes like this one. The font Thorny from the bundle was used for the inspiring quote on the image.  The only other thing that was added was the black rectangle with a lower opacity level, and the contrast of the image was slightly increased. This resulted in a perfect image for inspiring others on Instagram.

4. This Homemade Marmalade

JAM WREATH pink lilies watercolour

This image of mum’s homemade marmalade was a bit too boring on it’s own, and so using the frame available from the Pink Lilies Watercolor graphic in the bundle, we created this framed image of mum’s homemade marmalade. With the frame, it brings out the marmalade more, making it look attractive.

5. This Bouquet of Baby Breaths

gingerbread and cookies font

As dainty as these Baby’s Breath flowers in the bouquet, the font Gingerbread Cookie in the bundle fit perfectly with the image. The special thing about this font is that it comes as two, Gingerbread and Cookie, whilst Gingerbread is the upright font, the latter is the more cursive, lazy one. These fonts are perfect to be used over images as they don’t overpower it. For the image, its opacity was toned down a notch and a translucent rectangle was placed over it to support the font.

There are still lots of fonts, graphics and a huge variety of cut files that you can explore in The May Craft Bundle.

Feel free to experiment and share it with us ! We’d love to see what you get up to with the bundles.

The May Craft Bundle will be expiring in about a week, so make sure you grab it whilst you can;

Whimsical Iron-on Kitchen Towel Project

untitled (3)

Hello everyone ! It’s Debbie O’Neal of Scrap Me Quick Designs, here to share a quick Iron-On Kitchen Towel Project using a fun SVG image from the May Craft Bundle. This would make a clever gift or just something whimsical for your very own kitchen.

For today’s tutorial, we will be using the “When In Doubt, Add Bacon” SVG file from Tizzy Labs.

Image 1_When It Doubt Bacon Image

I literally squealed (sorry piggy) when I saw this… we do so love bacon at our house.

Whimsical Iron-on Kitchen Towel Project

Here’s what you’ll need;

  • 1  When In Doubt, Add Bacon SVG file (The May Craft Bundle) – downloaded and installed for die cut machine usage
  • 1  Cotton Kitchen Towel – Find on Amazon, Kitchen Stores, Discount Stores
  • 1  Roll of Iron-On/ Heat Transfer Vinyl (Navy or color of your choice)
  • A Weeding Tool
  • An Electronic Die Cut Machine  (I used Cricut Maker with Cricut Design Space but it works with Silhouette or other electronic die cut machines capable of cutting SVG files)
  • 1  Household Iron or Heat Press or Cricut Easy Press (I used the Cricut Easy Press)
  • A firm flat surface and a heat resistant pad or towel folded in half to use when you do the ironing

Step 1

Upload the SVG file to your electronic die cut software, here I am using the Cricut Design Space software for Cricut Maker. And then add to your virtual mat as shown below.

Step 1

Step 2

Size your image to fit your kitchen towel. I sized mine at 9“w X 8 “h. In Cricut Design Space, I needed to use the “Attach” feature so that image would remain together for cutting.

Step 2

Step 3

Select the material setting on your die cut machine to cut Iron-On/Heat Transfer Vinyl . In Cricut Design Space, I use Iron-On Vinyl setting. And hit the Make It button.

Step 3

Step 4

Make sure you select MIRROR Image as you need to cut the image in reverse when you use Iron-On/Heat Transfer Vinyl. In Cricut Design Space there is a MIRROR Image toggle switch you need to turn on prior to continuing your cut. You will notice it flips the image to reverse on the virtual mat. IMPORTANT: The shiny side (plastic liner) side goes down on your cutting mat so the image can be cut in reverse.

Step 4

Step 5

After cutting, WEED the Iron-On Vinyl. Note: Weeding means taking away the parts of the image you don’t which to keep. To keep waste to a minimum, I cut out the image from the larger vinyl sheet before I start weeding.

Step 6

Place weeded image on towel centered on bottom half. Apply the heat to the towel and iron-on vinyl according to directions for the Iron-On Product you are using and . For the Cricut Easy Press, I used temperature setting of 315 degrees F for 30 seconds on front side and then 15 seconds on the back side of the towel.

Step 7

Peel off the plastic liner and your fun kitchen towel is finished and ready for gift giving or to add a bit of whimsy to your own kitchen. You can even use it and wash it, just best to air dry for longevity.

And voila, here is the finished product below;

There are lots of other May Craft Bundle images that would make great Iron-On Projects too. What do you want to make ?

Happy Crafting !

How To Make Your Own Farmhouse-Style Pitcher

A guest post by Audrey C, from Project Silhouette

How to make your own Farmhouse Pitcher with Silhoutte Cameo and The February Craft Bundle

Love and Hate Relationship

I have to be honest with you: I have a love/hate relationship with Chip and Joanna Gaines. Why? I love them because they work so well together, they create miraculous results with houses that need a lot of help, and pretty much the entire world loves their style. I hate them because I love them so much.

Ha! Farmhouse style decor has gotten really big lately, and I attribute a lot of that to Joanna Gaines and her creative style. You can achieve the same style using just a few simple crafting tools and transform your home into something that Joanna would be proud of. So let’s get started!

Step 1: Get the file

February Craft Bundle 1 Farmhouse SVG cutting files from The February Craft Bundle 1

First, snag the February Bundle from Craft Bundles. They offer amazing bundles each month for a CRAZY discounted price, and you know what the best part is? They all come with a commercial license! That means you can make and sell items using their fonts and images. Can I get a what-what?!

For this project, I am using one of the SVG files in their Farmhouse bundle. Once downloaded, unzip the file and import the SVG into the software. Here I am using Silhouette Studio. Size it accordingly.

Farmhouse SVG cutting file in Silhouette Studio Tutorial 1

Step 2: Select your material & Cut

Next, go to your cut settings and select your material. Here I am using matte vinyl. Make sure your image shows all the cut lines! Otherwise, the cut will be incomplete.

Farmhouse SVG cutting file in Silhouette Studio Tutorial 2

Now load your vinyl into your machine and cut away!

Silhouette Cameo Cutting - Tutorial

Step 3: Weed the unwanted part

After your vinyl is cut, you are going to weed away the parts of the design that you don’t want. Use a small hook or a pair of tweezers to get those little pieces. This part is sometimes very relaxing!

Silhouette Cameo Weeding - Tutorial

Step 4: Put the design on transfer tape

Now grab your favourite transfer tape and place a piece on your newly-weeded design. Rub your fingers all over it so it’s stuck on well.

Silhouette Cameo Transfer - Tutorial

Silhouette Cameo Design Flip - Tutorial

Flip your design over and carefully peel off the backing of the vinyl, exposing the adhesive side of your matte vinyl.

Step 5: Peel the Vinyl and place it in the pitcher!

Now it’s time to grab your cute farmhouse pitcher! I found this one at IKEA…they have some amazing Farmhouse-style decor at terrific prices! Place your design right-side-up onto your pitcher, and use your fingers to gently rub the vinyl on.
Silhouette Cameo Vinyl - Tutorial

Now slowly peel the transfer tape off, leaving the vinyl on the pitcher. If your vinyl starts to peel up as well, that’s ok! Just place your fingers onto the pieces while you pull up the transfer tape.

After the transfer tape is off, rub the vinyl again in place and your farmhouse pitcher is complete!

It always amazes me at how easy it is to customize ordinary objects using the right design, and just some simple vinyl. Thank goodness Craft Bundles offers the cutest designs for a fraction of the price! Now what are you going to customize??

DIY Valentine’s Day Cake Toppers with Silhouette CAMEO 3

Valentine’s day is almost here, and you probably already have your extravagant, romantic dinner planned out. But, there’s something missing. How do you make this night special and unlike any other? Perhaps adding some fine details to your sweet endings could do the job. And we’ve got you covered. Today, we’re making Valentine’s Day Inspired Cake Toppers! We picked out some lovey-dovey designs to add to the love that’s already brewing in the air, so if that’s the missing piece in your puzzle, you can’t afford to miss this tutorial!

What we’ll need :

  • 3 Colored Papers
Any 3 different colors of your choice. Use textured paper if you like. In this tutorial we use two regular colored papers (pink & cream) and 1 glitter paper (red).
  • An Electronic Cutting Machine
Silhoutte Cameo, Cricut or Scan ‘n’ Cut are some of the cutting machines you can use. We’ll be using Silhoutte Cameo 3 for this tutorial.
  • Weeding Tool
  • Transference Tape
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • SuperGlue
  • Bamboo Skewers
  • Some cake!
What are cake toppers without cake?! Get some cake from the store or bake your own! :)
  • And lovely SVG cuttable designs
We got our designs from The January Craft Bundle. You can find a bunch of lovely SVG cut files and crafty fonts in there!

For this project we decided to use these two designs from Brandi Lea Designs included in the January Craft Bundle:

1. Preview Image1. Preview Image

This is what we want our cake toppers to look like.

Valentines Day SVG cutfiles

But…what’s Offset?
The ‘Offset’ feature that makes an additional outline to any of your designs.

Why Offset?

You can do wonders enhancing a design just by creating an offset! It can be used to make a design ‘pop-out’ or or add kind of a ‘3D effect to it’, depending on how you mix and match your colors and how much offset you apply. It’s also a great way to add ‘shadow’ to fonts when putting texts against busy backgrounds.

In this tutorial, we used Silhouette Studio to offset the designs.

First, let’s click on the star to bring up the Offset panel.

XOXO SVG cutting file

Click Offset

Valentines Day SVG Cutting File

Looks good! (you can fine-tune the amount of offset you want under “Distance”). Go ahead and click Apply.

Since we’re using three layers in this cake topper, we’ll offset once more. We’ll move the top layer aside for now and offset just the bottom layer.

Select the letters and click Offset.

Notice how there’s an overlap between the layers? Since we want each letter to be separate, let’s move the letters further apart from each other. Click Cancel.

Click and drag (or use the arrow keys) to move the letters further apart.

Let’s try the offset again. Looks good now. Click Apply.

And now, we have the three layers needed!

Do the same for the Hugs & Kisses file. This time, since we want the whole phrase to be a single piece, we don’t need to separate the letters .

Create an offset for the bottom layer too.

And you’re ready to send the layers to cut!

Watch how we made these adorable cake toppers….

We hope this tutorial inspired you to make your very own DIY cake toppers this Valentine’s Day. Especially if you’re getting some desserts to share with your significant other, these toppers are perfect to add to store desserts to personalize the gift, or a cake you’ve baked yourself for a romantic Valentine’s gift made entirely by you.
